SANKT MORITZ, SWITZERLAND

.KET BUREAU, LACUM RESPIRA

This pavilion along the shores of Lake Sankt Moritz, designed by .ket bureau based in Moscow and Yerevan, is intended to be a natural extension of the landscape drawing on an unobtrusive language that respects the setting and traditional architecture.

It features a combination of contemporary aesthetics and functionality. The complex is designed like a flexible system of spaces suitable for hosting events at any time of the year, both indoors and outdoors. Functionally, the area is divided into four main zones: parking, a service block and restaurant, a wellness centre, and a jetty with a multipurpose conference space and panoramic terraces. It all hinges around a concept of connection and osmosis between the inside and outside.

Large windows allow light and landscape to enter the interior. The simplicity of the layout emphasises the complexity of perception: from the open, almost theatrical restaurant hall and cosy, secluded wellness area to the transparent conference space and narrow passage way on the footbridge leading to the outdoor stage facing the mountains.

The choice of materials is geared to the feel of the place. The main building structure is made of laminated ash wood, fully utilising its strength and thermal properties. Their natural colours and textures help the buildings blend into the landscape.

The wood, locally sourced, is protected with natural oils and eco-friendly products resistant to moisture and UV rays. Natural light and cross ventilation are maximised, both for comfort purposes and to reduce energy costs.
