The Chedi Hegra, AlUla, Saudi
Arabia, project: Giò Forma
Built on the ruins of the railway station in Hegra, an ancient Nabatean city with UNESCO World Heritage status located in north-west Saudi Arabia, 'The Chedi Hegra', an elegant new luxury resort that enhances the cultural richness of the AlUla region.
The architecture and interiors of The Chedi Hegra, designed by GIÒ FORMA, seamlessly bring together historical features and contemporary sophistication. One of the hotel's most striking features is the Shadow Canopy, known as Lamellae, a 700-metre-long structure that gives a modern designer twist to some famous old railway tracks, creating a relaxing place worth for further exploration or simply pausing to think.
The Chedi Hegra has 35 carefully renovated rooms, suites and villas that offer enchanting views of the surrounding desert, including the Hegra Necropolis and rock formations sculpted by nature. The limited number of rooms reflects the hotel's commitment to preserving the original buildings: many rooms have been carved out of existing on-site structures, incorporating original stone walls and historic architectural features.
This approach maintains the integrity of the original structures, enhancing their timeless charm with a taste of modern luxury. Guests can enjoy private terraces, swimming pools and interiors inspired by the rich Nabataean heritage in perfect harmony with the surrounding natural landscape.
