CONGRESS CENTER, RIVA DEL
GARDA, ITALY

Designed by Piuarch in
partnership with Andrea Palaia, the New Conference Center in Riva del Garda
will stand along the lakeside, flowing smoothly and marking the boundaries of a
new public square. The building includes a 1200-seater hall and a second
multipurpose hall connected by an eye-catching two-level foyer, plus a new
Civic Theatre seating for 600.

The structural design of the complex plays on
solids and voids, alternating transparency and textured surfaces, and briingin
together urban and natural features. It is developed around a sequence of highly
recognisable features including the theatre structure that interacts with the
large structures of the medieval fortress and central church.

The
square in the middle of the layout is designed around sinuous lines and
generates new connections between the lakeside and old town centre, highlighted
by gardens providing a haven of greenery for relaxing in nature. .
The choice of materials emphasises links with the surrounding territory: local
natural stone, planned to be used for cladding all the structures, is paired
with lightweight glass creating a contrast between solidity and transparency
that reflects the uniqueness of the landscape.
