Nakâra Hotel Complex

Nakâra, Hotel Complex, Cap d’Adge, Project by: Ferrier Marchetti Studio

This new hotel complex, including a four-star hotel, two residential buildings, a swimming pool and spa, seminar room and fitness facility, is located at the southern end of the Agde coastal strip in an area that it is still not particularly urbanised.

The project is part of an extremely Mediterranean vision and has nothing of the blandness associated with recent developments in urbanisation along coastal landscapes.

The complex’s various programs are geared to an interplay of large perforated concrete walls. Their purpose is to filter the communal spaces - gardens, terraces, swimming pools - into the more intimate settings of the rooms.

The double-facade approach creates an intermediate, borderline space, where balconies project out to create a feeling of being a bit outside and a bit inside.

The perforated walls accentuate the depth of the facade and draw on alternating shadow and light to inject the entire complex with dynamism, creating permanent kinetic effects that become even more striking at night-time due to soft and discreet lighting. This project sets out to provide a calm and peaceful lifestyle in contrast with the intensity and congestion of mass tourism.

The animation or public participation comes from the way in which the construction is experienced and incorporated in seaside life and its ability to react and interact with Mediterranean light.

The architecture might be described as climatic and atmospheric.
