AUBRUN CEZANNE

AUBRUN, EN PLEINE LUMIERE, DOMAINE SAINT-JOSEPH, LE THOLONET, FRANCE

L’exposition présentée jusqu'au 28 septembre 2025 au Domaine Saint-Joseph du Tholonet, une ancienne retraite spirituelle Jésuite de 25 hectares, peinte par Cézanne vers 1880, a ouvert exceptionnellement ses portes dans le cadre de Cézanne 2025, pour présenter l’exposition de François Aubrun (1934-2009) qui y a vécu et travaillé pendant quarante ans.

Domaine Saint-Joseph du Tholonet, a former Jesuit retreat covering 25 hectares just a few kilometres from Aix-en-Provence, which was painted by Cezanne around 1880, is open to visitors as part of Cézanne Year 2025. It presents an exhibition, through 28 september 2025, of the artist François Aubrun (1934-2009), providing an overview of his life’s work. The artist settled in Domaine Saint-Joseph du Tholonet in 1962, where he lived and worked for forty years.

Il Domaine Saint-Joseph du Tholonet, a pochi chilometri da Aix-en-Provence, un ex ritiro spirituale gesuita di 25 ettari, dipinto da Cezanne intorno al 1880, viene eccezionalmente aperto in occasione dell’anno di Cézanne 2025 per la mostra dell’artista François Aubrun (1934-2009) fino al 28 settembre 2025, ripercorrendo la storia dell’artista che vi si istallò nel 1962 dove visse e lavorò per quarant'anni.

Cézanne, Aubrun. Deux peintres qui, a un demi-siècle d’intervalle, se sont postés devant les mêmes paysages, avec la même radicalité et le même dévouement. Imaginé de façon itinérante dans trois lieux emblématiques du Domaine – une serre, un oratoire et une chapelle – le parcours revisite les différentes étapes du cheminement artistique d’Aubrun, au cœur des paysages qui l’ont inspiré.

Cézanne, Aubrun. Two painters who, half a century apart, painted the same landscapes with the same radicalism and dedication. The exhibition, whose layout encompasses three emblematic places on the estate (a greenhouse, oratory and chapel), retraces the various stages in Aubrun's artistic career out in the landscapes from which he drew such inspiration.

Cézanne, Aubrun. Due pittori che, a mezzo secolo di distanza, dipinsero gli stessi paesaggi, con la stessa radicalità e dedizione. Strutturata come un percorso attraverso tre luoghi emblematici della tenuta – una serra, un oratorio e una cappella – la mostra ripercorre le diverse fasi della carriera artistica di Aubrun, tra i paesaggi da cui ha tratto ispirazione.

Ainsi, des premières gouaches figuratives aux dernières huiles monochromatiques, en passant par ses écrits et un ensemble inédit d’archives et de témoignages, nous entrons en profondeur dans une œuvre aiguë, réfléchie, d’une grande force poétique, et qui nous est plus que jamais adressée.

The works on display range from his earliest figurative gouaches and final monochrome oils to his writings and a previously unseen collection of archives and testimonies. Together they constitute a notable collection of highly thoughtful works of great stylistic force.

Così, dalle sue prime gouache figurative ai suoi ultimi oli monocromatici, passando per i suoi scritti e una raccolta inedita di archivi e testimonianze, la mostra presenta un corpus di opere acute e riflessive, di grande potenza poetica.
