SCHAULAGER LAURENZ FOUNDATION, BASEL

Le Schaulager de la Fondation Laurenz à Bâle/Münchenstein, musée d’art contemporain conçu par Herzog & de Meuron, présente Bass (2024), de l’artiste et réalisateur Steve McQueen (Londres, 1969) jusqu’au 16/11/2025. Bass est une gigantesque réalisation, spécialement conçue selon l’architecture du bâtiment, et fortement inspirée par l’intérêt que McQueen porte à la lumière, à la couleur et au son mais aussi par leur influence sur notre perception physique de l’espace et du temps.
Schaulager, a contemporary art museum in Basel/Münchenstein designed by Herzog & de Meuron for the Laurenz Foundation in Basel/Münchenstein, presents ‘Bass’ (2024) by the artist and film director Steve McQueen (London, 1969), until 16/11:2025. ‘Bass’ is a gigantic work specially designed to knit into the building’s architecture that is largely inspired by McQueen's interest in light, colour, and sound, as well as the influence they have on our physical perception of space and time.

et de sons : des fréquences basses, graves donc, résonnent dans l’espace –
tantôt fortement, tantôt plus faiblement, audibles sous forme de sons
individuels ou comme le fil d’une mélodie.
The work is both immersive and radically intangible, composed solely out of colour and sound: low frequencies resonate throughout the space, sometimes sounding louder, sometimes audible as individual tones or as melody.

da colore e suono: le basse frequenze risuonano nello spazio, a volte più forti,

La bande originale de Bass a été créée en collaboration avec un groupe intergénérationnel de musiciennes et musiciens de la diaspora noire, dirigé par McQueen et le célèbre bassiste Marcus Miller. Dans le même temps, l’espace est inondé d’une lumière colorée qui traverse lentement, presque imperceptiblement, tout le spectre de couleurs perceptible, du rouge profond à l’ultraviolet.
The soundtrack of Bass was created in collaboration with an intergenerational group of musicians from the black diaspora under the guidance of McQueen and renowned bassist Marcus Miller. The space is simultaneously flooded with coloured light that slowly, almost imperceptibly, crossed the entire perceptible colour spectrum from deep red to near ultraviolet.
La colonna sonora di Bass è stata creata in collaborazione con un gruppo intergenerazionale di musicisti della diaspora nera, guidato da McQueen e dal famoso bassista Marcus Miller. Allo stesso tempo, lo spazio viene inondato da una luce colorata che attraversa lentamente, quasi impercettibilmente, l'intero spettro cromatico percepibile, dal rosso intenso fino all'ultravioletto.
