LANDMARK FOUNTAIN BY NEON, BRENT CROSS TOWN, UK

Conçue par NEON pour Brent Cross Town, une nouvelle ville-parc de 73 hectares située au nord de Londres, la Neighbourhood Square Fountain réinterprète la fontaine publique traditionnelle sous la forme d’une sculpture contemporaine. Le solid surface HIMACS a été sélectionné pour sa précision, sa durabilité et sa capacité à intégrer harmonieusement la couleur, l’eau et une géométrie complexe. Dirigée par l’architecte Mark Nixon et l’artiste visuelle Viliina Koivisto, le projet prend soigneusement en compte l’identité et l’interaction communautaires tout en garantissant une infrastructure robuste, nécessitant peu d’entretien, respectueuse de l’environnement et suscitant une résonance émotionnelle.

Designed for Brent Cross Town by NEON, a new 180-acre park town in north London, the Neighbourhood Square Fountain reinterprets the traditional civic fountain as a contemporary sculptural form. HIMACS solid surface was selected for its precision, durability and ability to seamlessly integrate colour, water and complex geometry. Led by architect Mark Nixon and visual artist Viliina Koivisto, the design strategy carefully considers community identity and interaction while ensuring robust, low-maintenance, environmentally sensitive infrastructure that is also emotionally resonant. 

Progettata da NEON per Brent Cross Town, una nuova “park town” di 180 acri nel nord di Londra, la Neighbourhood Square Fountain reinterpreta la tradizionale fontana civica come una forma scultorea contemporanea. Il Solid Surface HIMACS è stato scelto per la sua precisione, durabilità e capacità di integrare perfettamente colore, acqua e geometrie complesse. Guidata dall’architetto Mark Nixon e dalla visual artist Viliina Koivisto, la progettazione ha considerato con attenzione l’identità della comunità e l’interazione tra le persone, garantendo allo stesso tempo un’infrastruttura solida, a bassa manutenzione, ecocompatibile e capace di suscitare una forte risonanza emotiva.

La fontaine est réalisée en HIMACS, dans ses teintes vives et vivifiantes de vert et de turquoise. Le design complexe de la fontaine se compose d'une série de plaques empilées et effilées qui guident l'eau vers le bas, leurs bords étant soutenus par des corbeaux. Le léger décalage des plaques introduit une asymétrie apaisante, conférant à la sculpture une variété d'aspects intrigants lorsqu'on l'observe sous différents angles et perspectives. Ces chevauchements créent également une variété de cascades, enrichissant l'expérience sensorielle de l'eau qui tombe. HIMACS répond à ces exigences en combinant sophistication technique et liberté formelle, tout en offrant la résistance aux intempéries et la stabilité chromatique indispensables à une installation extérieure.

The fountain is made of HIMACS, in vivid and uplifting tones of green and turquoise.  This intricate and striking design features a series of stacked, tapering plates that guide water downward, with radial corbels supporting their edges. The gentle shift of the plates introduces a calm asymmetry, giving the sculpture a variety of intriguing aspects when viewed from different angles and perspectives. These overlaps also create a variety of cascades, enriching the sensory experience of the falling water. HIMACS offers not only the technical and aesthetic sophistication demanded to meet such exact geometries, but also the durability, weather resistance and colour stability required for an exterior installation of this nature. 

La fontana è realizzata in HIMACS nelle vivaci e luminose tonalità di verde e turchese. La composizione presenta una complessa e suggestiva sovrapposizione di piastre rastremate che guidano l’acqua verso il basso, mentre mensole radiali sostengono i bordi. Il lieve spostamento delle piastre introduce una delicata asimmetria, offrendo molteplici prospettive a seconda del punto di osservazione. Le sovrapposizioni generano, inoltre, una varietà di cascate, arricchendo l’esperienza sensoriale dell’acqua in movimento. HIMACS combina estetica e ingegno tecnico, assicurando geometrie complesse e resistenza agli agenti atmosferici. La stabilità cromatica, la facilità di manutenzione e la possibilità di riparare e riutilizzare il materiale Solid Surface contribuiscono alla sostenibilità e alla longevità dell’installazione.
