LU YANG, DOKU THE ILLUSION

À l’occasion du 20e anniversaire des Espaces Louis Vuitton et en parallèle de la Biennale d'art de Venise, la Fondation Louis Vuitton présente, dans ses espaces de Calle del Ridotto jusqu'au 10 octobre, l'exposition DOKU The Illusion, consacrée à l'artiste chinois Lu Yang. Cette initiative s'inscrit dans le cadre du programme Hors-les-murs, présenté dans les Espaces Louis Vuitton de Tokyo, Munich, Venise, Pékin, Séoul et Osaka, avec pour ambition de créer des projets internationaux et de les rendre accessibles à un public plus large.

In conjunction with the 20^th anniversary of Espaces Louis Vuitton and the Venice Art Biennale, the Louis Vuitton Foundation is presenting an exhibition entitled DOKU The Illusion featuring the Chinese artist Lu Yang whose work is being showcased in the Calle del Ridotto through to 10^th October. The exhibition is an integral part of the Hors-les-murs programme presented in the Espaces Louis Vuitton in Tokyo, Munich, Venice, Beijing, Seoul, and Osaka, with the aim of creating international projects accessible to a wider audience.

In occasione dei 20 anni degli Espaces Louis Vuitton e parallelamente alla Biennale d’Arte di Venezia, la Fondation Louis Vuitton presenta negli spazi di Calle del Ridotto fino al 10 ottobre, la mostra DOKU The Illusion dedicata all’artista cinese Lu Yang. L’esposizione è parte integrante del programma Hors-les-murs, presentato negli Espaces Louis Vuitton di Tokyo, Monaco, Venezia, Pechino, Seoul e Osaka, con l’obiettivo di creare progetti internazionali e renderli accessibili a un pubblico più vasto.

Né à Shanghai en 1984 et vivant et travaillant à Tokyo, Lu Yang s'est affirmé internationalement pour ses créations de mondes virtuels présentées sous forme d'œuvres vidéo immersives. Pour l'exposition à l'Espace Louis Vuitton Venezia, l'artiste a imaginé une installation présentant des sculptures originales et une vidéo centrée sur son nouveau film DOKU The Illusion, dans lequel DOKU est un personnage virtuel inspiré d'une version numérisée de son propre visage. L'installation transforme l'Espace en un sanctuaire cybernétique, à mi-chemin entre une chapelle et un refuge futuriste. Au centre, le film DOKU The Illusion est projeté sur un écran LED monumental placé sur un autel et accompagné d'une bande son mêlant hip-hop, piano et musique traditionnelle.

Born in Shanghai in 1984 but now living and working in Tokyo, Lu Yang has gained international recognition for his depictions of virtual worlds presented as immersive video works. For the exhibition at Espace Louis Vuitton Venice, the artist has created original sculptures and a video installation focused on his new film DOKU The Illusion, in which  DOKU is a virtual character based on a digitalisation of the artist’s own face. The installation turns the Espace into a cyber sanctuary, something midway between a chapel and a futuristic refuge. The film DOKU The Illusion is being shown on a monumental LED screen placed on an altar constructed in the centre and is accompanied by a soundtrack based on a mix of hip-hop, piano and traditional music.

Nato a Shanghai nel 1984 e trasferitori a Tokyo dove vive e lavora, Lu Yang, si è affermato a livello internazionale per le sue creazioni di mondi virtuali presentati come opere video immersive. Per l’esposizione all’Espace Louis Vuitton Venezia, l’artista ha realizzato delle sculture originali e un’istallazione video incentrata sul suo nuovo film DOKU The Illusion dove DOKU è un personaggio virtuale basato sulla digitalizzazione del volto dell’artista stesso. L’installazione trasforma l’Espace in un santuario cibernetico, a metà tra una cappella e un rifugio futuristico. Al centro, il film DOKU The Illusion è visibile su un monumentale schermo LED collocato su un altare e accompagnato da colonna sonora, intreccio di hip-hop, pianoforte e musica tradizionale.
