TRIBUTE
TO JEAN-MICHEL FOLON
En octobre dernier, à l’occasion du 20e anniversaire de la disparation de Jean-Michel Folon, Saint-Paul de Vence en collaboration avec la Fondation Folon, a rendu hommage à l’artiste belge, né à Bruxelles en 1924. Folon entretenait en effet des liens privilégiés avec le village, se rendant régulièrement à la Colombe d’or, mythique hôtel-restaurant, pour y créer et rencontrer ses amis.
On the twentieth anniversary of Jean-Michel Folon's death in October , Saint-Paul de Vence, in partnership with the Folon Foundation, paid tribute to the Belgian artist born in Brussels in 1924. Folon had close ties with the village, where he regularly frequented the legendary Colombe d'Or hotel-restaurant to spend time with friends.
Lo scorso ottobre, in occasione del ventesimo anniversario della morte di Jean-Michel Folon, Saint-Paul de Vence, in collaborazione con la Fondazione Folon, ha reso omaggio all'artista belga, nato a Bruxelles nel 1924. Folon aveva stretti legami con il villaggio, dove frequentava regolarmente il leggendario hotel-ristorante Colombe d'Or per creare e incontrare gli amici.
A la fin de sa vie, il imagina pour la chapelle des Pénitents blancs un extraordinaire décor directement inspiré par les pénitents. Les couleurs légères des vitraux et des peintures, la richesse chromatique de la mosaïque contrastent avec l’extérieur de l’édifice du 17ème siècle en pierre brut.
At the end of his life, he designed extraordinary new décor
the ‘Chapelle des Pénitents’ (Chapel of the Brotherhood of White Penitents) directly
inspired by the penitents themselves. The light colours of the stained glass
and paintings and chromatic richness of the mosaic contrast with the exterior
of a 17th-century building made of rough stone.
Verso la fine della sua vita, concepì una straordinaria decorazione per la Cappella dei Penitenti Bianchi, ispirandosi direttamente ai penitenti stessi. I colori chiari delle vetrate e dei dipinti, e la ricca tavolozza cromatica del mosaico, contrastano con la pietra grezza esterna dell'edificio seicentesco.
