The result of a twenty-year friendship and shared love of contemporary art between Valentina Chiminelli Parolin and Clara Pacifico, founder of NM Contemporary – Monaco, Genius Loci Cortina d’Ampezzo is an unusual artist residency programme t held annually.
Nato da un’amicizia ventennale e dalla passione comune per l’arte contemporanea di Valentina Chiminelli Parolin e Clara Pacifico, fondatrice di NM Contemporary – Monaco, Genius Loci Cortina d’Ampezzo è un progetto di residenza d’artisti atipico concepito con cadenza annuale.
Les artistes sont invités à la Villa Parolin, demeure emblématique de la fin des années 1940, conçue par Luigi Vietti et surnommée « Il Castelletto ». Il peuvent séjourner aussi longtemps qu'ils le souhaitent, s’intégrant à la famille d'accueil et à la population locale, afin de créer des œuvres qui expriment l'âme du lieu (le genius loci).
Artists are invited to Villa dei Parolin, a landmark building from the late 1940s designed by Luigi Vietti and known as “Il Castelletto,” where they can spend as much time as they like, feeling part of both the host family and local community, and create works that capture the spirit of the place (i.e. the genius loci).
Gli artisti sono invitati nella Villa dei Parolin, edificio emblematico della fine degli anni Quaranta progettato Luigi Vietti e conosciuto come «Il Castelletto», dove possono trascorrere quanto tempo desiderano sentendosi parte sia della famiglia che li ospita che della popolazione locale, e realizzare delle opere che raccontino l’anima del luogo (il genius loci appunto).
Cette première édition, lancée en juin dernier, présente les quatre premiers artistes rencontrés et acquis par la famille Parolin depuis le début des années 2000 (Matteo Basilé, Massimo Catalani, Giacomo Costa et Matteo Sanna), rejoints par trois artistes qui se sont distingués ces douze derniers mois par une recherche profondément ancrée dans les valeurs du genius loci (Vincenzo Marsiglia, Antonio Barbieri et Roberto Maria Lino).
The first edition, launched last June, featured four artists discovered and promoted by the Parolins since the early 2000s (Matteo Basilé, Massimo Catalani, Giacomo Costa, and Matteo Sanna), alongside three artists who had caught the eye over the past 12 months for their work closely tied to the values of the genius loci (Vincenzo Marsiglia, Antonio Barbieri, Roberto Maria Lino).
Per la prima edizione, lanciata il giugno scorso, sono stati invitati quattro artisti incontrati ed acquisiti dai Parolin a partire dai primi anni 2000 (Matteo Basilé, Massimo Catalani, Giacomo Costa e Matteo Sanna) affiancati da tre autori distintisi negli ultimi 12 mesi per la ricerca fortemente legata ai valori del genius loci (Vincenzo Marsiglia, Antonio Barbieri, Roberto Maria Lino).
Les éditions suivantes alterneront, selon les mêmes critères, un groupe d'artistes de la collection avec des artistes récemment rencontrés par la famille. Les œuvres seront présentées au public chaque année l'avant-dernier dimanche d'août.
Forthcoming editions will showcase groups of artists already involved in the collection together with recently discovered artists. Each year the works will be presented to the public on the penultimate Sunday of August.
Nelle edizioni successive si avvicenderanno secondo lo stesso criterio, un gruppo di autori in collezione con artisti di recente ʺincontroʺ. Le opere saranno presentate al pubblico ogni anno la penultima domenica di agosto.
