ARTIST OF THE YEAR AWARD 2025

Alessandro Riva, inventeur du prix Artist of the Year, contre les barrières de genres, de techniques et de langues. Journaliste et critique d'art depuis plus de trente ans, directeur à  l'esprit vif de magazines, capable de revitaliser des revues spécialisées en fin de vie, Alessandro Riva (1964), a récemment insufflé une nouvelle énergie à Arte e Artuu, en réinventant son approche et son slogan, ʺl'âme pop de l'art contemporainʺ, comme le déclare le commissaire d'expositions consacrées à la figuration italienne. Il possède le charme désinvolte de l'écriture ʺpoétique et prophétiqueʺ de Gustave Apollinaire. Riva a créé des formats radiophoniques et est apparu dans des émissions de télévision, il écrit des livres et des nouvelles, et a été le commissaire d'expositions mémorables.

Alessandro Riva, inventor of the Artist of the Year Award designed to break down gender-technical  barriers and languages.  Journalist and art critic for over thirty years, as well as a shrewd magazine editor renowned for revitalizing specialist publications on the brink of dying out, Alessandro Riva (1964), has recently rejuvenated Arte and Artuu, reinventing both their layouts and slogans. As the curator of exhibitions focused on Italian figurative art himself stated: “it is all about the pop soul of the contemporary.” He has a dandy allure and writing style described as “poetic and prophetic” by Gustave Apollinaire. Riva has devised radio programmes and taken part in TV programmes like Carlo Lucarelli’s “Blu Notte”. He writes books and stories, and has curated some memorable exhibitions; among other achievements, he was also the first person to bring Italian Street Art into museums.

Alessandro Riva (1964), giornalista e critico d’arte da oltre trent’anni, direttore arguto di magazine capace di rivitalizzare riviste specialistiche in fase “terminale”, in questi anni ha rinvigorito Arte e Artuu, di cui ha reinventato l’impostazione e lo slogan, come dichiara il curatore di mostre incentrate sulla figurazione italiana: “l’anima pop del contemporaneo” .   Ha l’allure dandy,  dalla scrittura “poetica e profetica” di Gustave Apollinaire. Riva ha inventato format radiofonici e partecipato a trasmissioni Tv, come Blu Notte di Carlo Lucarelli, scrive libri, racconti e ha curato mostre memorabili, tra le altre è stato il primo a portare nei musei la Street Art italiana.

Luigi Serafini, Codex seraphinianus

Il y a trois ans, il a créé pour le magazine Artuu le prix Artist of the Year ʺle premier et unique prix d’art – comme il a précisé – dont les finalistes sont sélectionnés par un jury spécialisé, composé de critiques, de directeurs de musées et de collectionneurs, mais dont la décision finale revient aux lecteurs du magazine, qui votent pour le lauréat. Ces dernières années, le prix a attiré un public plus large et plus diversifié, et est considéré comme l’un des prix les plus prestigieux et les plus populaires.ʺ

For the past three years, he has been focused on the “Artist of the Year” Award for the magazine Artuu; as the journalist stated: ʺThis is the first and only art prize whose finalists are chosen by an expert panel of judges made up of critics, museum directors and art collectors, but the final verdict is left to the magazine’s readers, who vote for the winner. Over the years, the prize has attracted a wider, more diverse audience and is considered to be one of the most prestigious and popular awards.ʺ

Da tre anni ha inventato per il magazine Artuu il Premio “Artist of the Year”, come il giornalista ha dichiarato: ʺÈ il primo e unico premio d’arte i cui finalisti vengono indicati da una giuria specializzata, formata da critici, direttori di musei e collezionisti, ma l’ardua sentenza spetta poi ai lettori  della rivista, che votano il vincitore. In questi anni il premio ha attirato un pubblico più ampio, eterogeno, ed è considerato tra i premi più autorevoli e insieme popolareʺ.

Luigi Serafini, Divina Commedia Remix

Le lauréat 2025 est l’histrionique, hérétique et pataphysique Luigi Serafini (1949), auteur du Codex Seraphinianus, une encyclopédie illustrée visionnaire créée par l’un des plus brillants auteurs italiens entre 1976 et 1978, publiée par Franco Maria Ricci, dans une langue ʺasémiqueʺ, ne correspondant à aucun alphabet existant. C’est un ouvrage culte, déjà entré dans l’histoire et l’imaginaire collectif, toujours contemporain, qui compte des adeptes et un fan-club international. Riva a commenté : ʺIl a remporté la moitié des vœux, preuve qu'il est un auteur cultivé et raffiné, aimé par Italo Calvino, Umberto Eco, Leonardo Sciascia, Tim Burton, Federico Fellini, pour ne citer que quelques admirateurs, mais aussi par le grand public. Il est le porte-drapeau d'un art qui transcende le petit cercle autoréférentiel pour s'ancrer véritablement dans l'imaginaire collectif.ʺ Jacqueline Ceresoli

The 2025 winner is the flamboyant, heretical, and pataphysical artist Luigi Serafini (1949), who created the Codex Seraphinianus, a visionary illustrated encyclopaedia compiled by Italy’s most brilliant creative talent from 1976-78. Published by Franco Maria Ricci, it is written in an “asemic” language that does not correspond to any existing alphabet. It is a cult book that has already left its mark on both history and the collective psyche. It is a very current and contemporary book boasting numerous followers and an international fan club. As Riva noted: “He was voted for by half of the voters, proving to be a cultured and highly refined writer, loved by Italo Calvino, Umberto Eco, Leonardo Sciascia, Tim Burton and Federico Fellini, to name just a few of his admirers, but he was also much loved by ordinary people. He is the standard-bearer of an artform that steps out of a small self-referential niche to truly enter into the wider world.” Jacqueline Ceresoli

Il vincitore del 2025  è l’istrionico, eretico e patafisico Luigi Serafini (1949), autore del Codex Seraphinianus, un’enciclopedia  illustrata visionaria creata dal più geniale autore italiano tra il 1976 e il 1978, pubblicata da Franco Maria Ricci, in una lingua “asemica”, che non corrisponde a nessun alfabeto esistente. E’ un libro di culto già entrato nella storia e nell’immaginario collettivo, sempre  contemporaneo,  che  vanta  seguaci e un fans club internazionale.  Ha commentato  Riva: ʺE’ stato votato dalla metà dei votanti, dimostrando di essere un autore colto e raffinatissimo, amato da Italo Calvino, Umberto Eco, Leonardo Sciascia, Tim Burton, Federico Fellini, tanto per citare alcuni estimatori, ma anche dalla gente comune.
