Richard Meier (born October 12, 1934) in Newark, New Jersey is an American architect known for his rationalist designs and the use of the colour white. Meier was identified as one of The New York Five which refers to the group of five New York City architects (Peter Eisenman, Michael Graves, Charles Gwathmey, John Hejduk and Richard Meier). These five had a common allegiance to a pure form of architectural modernism, harkening back to the work of Le Corbusier in the 1920s and 1930s.

In 2008, he won the gold medal in architecture from the Academy of Arts and Letters and his work Jesolo Lido Village was awarded the Dedalo Minosse International Prize for commissioning a building. Among his notable commissions the Getty Center, Los Angeles (completed 1997), Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (completed 1995) and the Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills, California (completed 1996); The Hague, The Netherlands City Hall (completed 1995) and San Jose City Hall (completed 2005).

In 2018, amid the MeToo movement, Meier was accused by several women of sexual harassment and assault.[2] He first took a leave, and in late 2018 it was announced that he would permanently resign.
