Camardella Bivouac

Camardella Bivouac, La Thuile, Italy, project: Massimo Roj Progetto CMR

ph. André Barailler

Dedicated to Edoardo Camardella, a young mountaineer who died in 2019 buried under an avalanche with his friend Luca Martini, Camardella Bivouac was officially opened last July by Massimo Roj, CEO of Progetto CMR, at an altitude of 3364 meters up on tRuitor Glacier in La Thuile, Italy. This small, sustainable, lightweight building provides mountain-friendly high-altitude accommodation for six people.

Built on the summit on August 4th, 2022, thanks to an operation carried out using a special helicopter from Switzerland, Edoardo Camardella Bivouac, the first in La Thuile at a height of over 3,000 meters, features a lightweight, durable and energy-autonomous structure and was created by an expert of team of architects, designers and engineers headed by Massimo Roj.

The structure is designed to be factory built and then rigged out and installed at altitude. The bivouac’s two blocks are constructed with a high-performance prefabricated shell, while the heating (planned to be underfloor) is designed to be as comfortable as possible for those taking shelter in this innovative architectural creation.
