International Prize Dedalo Minosse For Commissioning A Building
2005/2006 Sixth Edition
The high standard of the previous editions
of the award has once again been attained in 2006.
Its role in attracting attention to emerging names and ideas,
alongside major projects, is
increasingly clear. Working from its own unusual angle, the
award provides an overall picture of the system of relations
and input underpinning a work, focusing on the clients
own special contribution. The jury was faced with an enormous
task over 500 entrants looking through
the quality of the outcome, still the most vital guideline
for judging the process leading to its creation. Over thirty
countries entered: Albania, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada,
Chile, Croatia, Denmark, Philippines, France, Germany, Japan,
Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Mexico, New
Zealand, Netherlands, Peoples Republic of China, Portugal,
Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, United States, Sweden, Switzerland,
Turkey, and Hungary.
An extensive overview of architectural design on different
scales around the world, ranging from major infrastructures
and public buildings to corporate headquarters, exhibition/cultural
spaces, housing, urban redevelopment and real-estate enhancement.
What counts in all these works is the spirit in which they
are conceived, whether that mean bravely taking on the challenge
of innovation, carrying out the operations with great efficiency,
dedication to work, or an awareness of the socio-cultural
meaning of what is being done. In this light, the award
focuses special attention on the environment, the use of
energy resources and natural light, Design for All, the
social purpose of architectural design, and young architects,
who always have their own special section.
In such a rich context as this, once again this year the
jury wanted to leave room for all those interesting projects
which, while not being amongst those selected, still help
(alongside the prize-winning and commended works) shed light
on what is going on in Italy and around the
world.
